What would I wear if no one saw me? That's how my awakening in fashion began: asking myself, for whom we do what we do. Do we feel real? Can we express ourselves freely? Fashion is a reflection of what's happening socially and within each individual. What a person wears and consumes speaks volumes about them in many ways. So why not be who we are when no one sees us? Comfort, convenience, was undoubtedly a revolution for women.
Beginnings
Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel was one of the women who transformed women's fashion as we know it. Saturated with the elaborate clothing of the Belle Epoque, she designed loose, simple, versatile, and comfortable garments that emerged, in many cases, from the adaptation of men's clothing to women's bodies. These new ideas didn't emerge from nowhere; rather, the role of women in society was changing. With their husbands away at war, they went out to work, and so Coco "liberated women" through her clothing, giving them comfort, lightness, and practicality, obviously without losing elegance.
Fashion today
Fashion is always a reflection or a result of a person's lifestyle, of our essence , of our emotional side. We continue to experience a true feminine revolution, in every sphere, and it has to do with the liberation of women from so many schemes and impositions. There are those who consider and work with fashion as frivolous, mass consumerism. There are those who understand that these processes must be accompanied from their place, through every expression.
At Marie, I strive to be at the service of what's happening in society. We're no strangers to it; it was and will be our starting point, our origin. These pieces support this movement of women expressing themselves freely, being able to be comfortable, creating timeless pieces that promote awareness and sustainability, but above all, supporting BEING whatever they want to BE!
